15th CHAMPS Coordination Committee meeting

It was held on 6 March, 2024 (Wednesday) from 01:00 pm to 04:00 pm at IEDCR (Conference room, new building)

Discussions:

1. The meeting started with the permission of Prof. Dr. Tahmina Shirin, Director, IEDCR.
2. Respective CHAMPS BD Team leads presented the updates of the activities. Dr. Kazi Munisul Islam presented the updates of mortality surveillance and MITS. He mentioned the month-wise MITS approach and consent success rate at the facility, community, and expansion area individually and then the combined consent success rate, which is near 41%. He also mentioned the introduction of new clinical form & its logistical challenges, one patient one dedicated doctor strategy, high-risk mother identification in PSS, orientation and MITS case presentation death review in Obstetrics and Pediatrics department of BSMMCH.
3. Dr. Afsana Afrin presented the updates about the DeCoDe. Dr. Muntasir Alam presented the update on laboratory findings of MITS (March 2023-Feb 2024).
4. Ms. Shahana Parveen presented the PSS Plus update. Firstly, she describes the PSS Plus background and objectives. She mentioned about development of a training module, conducting training for PSS data collectors, refresher training, initiates piloting, and further initiatives. She described about date scheduler app and motherhood calendar and how it works. She also mentioned some challenges and limitations in the practical field, categorized the problem, and discussed about the steps they took to overcome them. There were some discussions to present the “Date scheduler app” at next technical committee meeting.
5. Mohammad Faruque Hossain presented the update on community feedback session (March 2023 - February 2024:415 meetings). He also mentioned some stakeholder activities in community.
6. Muhammad Shaikh Hassan presented about community death notification and community MITS approach. He also mentioned about community volunteer meetings and training.
7. Md. Atique Iqbal Chowdhury presented about HDSS component updates. He showed some graphical updates of pregnant women's visit date and event date. He mentioned that identification within 20 weeks gestational age is 55.7%. Dr. Mahbubur Rahman suggested presenting the positive achievements of CHAMPS in the next technical committee meeting and to show how the data generated is comparable to the national survey.
8. Golam Mostafa presented the update on CHAMPS website, IEDCR. Dr. Mahbub suggested simplifying the DeCoDe data visualization, which can show in a graphical presentation by name and less frequent causes of death can be marked as ‘Others’. Ms. Shahana suggested giving a note and categorizing unidentified causes. Some discussions were about uploading some pictures of CHAMPS activities in Bangladesh on the CHAMPS website.
9. After his presentation, Dr. Mahbubur Rahman discussed about policy forum and technical committee meeting. He discussed technical committee updates, meeting date confirmation, and dissemination. Some discussions were about how to present CHAMPS activities in the next technical committee meeting. He mentioned some plans of TOT, scientific communication training, and risk communication training. He also discussed bulletin and surveillance updates. Dr. Mohammed Zahid Hossain requested to add a case study in bulletin.
